Demo Discovery: “Rhapsidy” or “This Trapeze Ball Thought Out”
Wednesday, February 25th, 2009Good morning Internets. We are pleased to share with you a newly discovered recent-ish Johnny Foreignerdemo for the tune “This Trapeze Ball Thought Out.” It was found with the title “rhapsidy (rough demo),” so who is to say what the proper title might end up being? What we can say is that this version is substantially more fleshed-out than the quasi-acoustic recording the band performed for that courtyard video for Fly TV over the summer [video here]. There is a sturdy delay on the guitar track that stutters like a short-circuited 8-bit video game, and the chorus is denser, more guitar-laden and has a solid vocal from guitarist Alexei Berrow to complement bassist Kelly Southern’s high and airy verse. Time will tell whether the track will appear on the Birmingham, England-based noise pop trio’s planned sophomore set, the follow-up to last year’s triumphant full-length debut Waited Up Til It Was Light. So this is like a collectors’ item, yeh? Grab it, play it, love it, all below. In case you slept through the recent news [it's all here, scroll down], Johnny Foreigner plans to begin recording its new record in March in the U.S. between tours of Europe and the U.K. The trio is on tour with Sky Larkincurrently, and based on a recent MySpace missive from Alexei, things are going swimmingly in Europe right now. Johnny Foreigner was filmed while performing somewheres, so we’ll eagerly await that and present it to you as soon as we turn it up.
