Tour Report: 6 April, Islington Academy, London, England

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Last night saw Johnny Foreigner round off their UK tour in support of Hundred Reasons at Islington Academy, London, playing a set packed with songs which will feature on the band’s upcoming second album, which they recently recorded in New York with Alex Newport. With Alexei announcing that today would be their first day-off in 2 1/2 months they showed no signs of fatigue and played a solid set, very similar to the one which was recorded by Fabchannel at Amsterdam Paradiso which we referenced here. Kicking off with a slowed-down version of “Graces” leading into “Feels Like Summer,” the band then followed with favourite “Yes! You Talk Too Fast.” A heavier version of “Custom Scenes And The Parties That Make Them” (now renamed as “Criminals”) followed as part of a trio of new songs, with “Kingston Called, They Want Their Lost Youth Back” and “Temp. Promenade” coming after hit “Eyes Wide Terrified.” The set was rounded off with “Cranes and Cranes and Cranes and Cranes” and “The Coast Is Always Clear,” which made a return to the setlist for the UK tour, favoured to “Yr All Just Jealous”/”Absolute Balance” which was played in Europe, with the band citing a lack of rehearsal time as the reason for a host of new songs being played at the expense of older fan favourites.
